DNAIntroductionDNA profiling is a unique tool to identify individual. DNA of each person is unique exept identical twins. So it is helpful to individualize a person and to establish biological relationship. It is mostly used in forensic identification in rape, murder and other crimes. It is also used in identification of missing person at mass disaster and other accidents. Since 2005 the laboratory has been providing DNA analytical services to establish biological relationship in disrupted paternity, immigration, citizenship and other purposes. The case can be sent from court or any government or private agencies or individuals.
FacilitiesThe laboratory is equipped with automated capillary system DNA Sequencer, gold plated PCR thermocycler, conventional electrophoresis system and other necessary basic equipments required for the technology. It is headed by qualified and experienced forensic experts and supported by well trained staffs. The laboraty uses highly confirmative, reliable and widely accepted PCR based STR DNA profiling technique. For this the laboratory is using AmpFISTER Identifier Amplification Kit. It includes 15 STR autosomal DNA markers and one amelogenin (sex marker). Probability of matching two different person with these markers is one in trillions.
Quality Assurance ProgrammeThe laboratory has been participating in GITAD/INPALM DNA Quality Control Exercise Programme since 2006.
